Day 2

Subject: There's more than one type of membership site, [firstname]!

Hi [firstname],

Today I want to cover the many different types of membership site.

I'm sure you're already aware of the regular membership site types. This is where you have information, software, videos and so on, on a site with restricted access. You've gotta sign up to access the content.

You could have a free membership site (and monetize it through through ads and mailing list offers) or you could have a “freemium” business model where some parts of the site are open to all and other parts are subscription only. Then there's the subscription only model, where subscribers pay a regular fee to access the site. There might be a just one subscription rate, or there could be various levels where the more you pay, the more of the site you can access.

Finally, some membership sites are an offshoot of a club or other organization. Access to these is strictly private, and often comes bundled as part of another membership.

But there are other membership site types, too.

For example it may surprise you to learn that, technically speaking, social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn are membership sites. You have to sign-up to them, don't you?

Another type of membership site is “software as a service”. This is becoming increasingly popular – think of all those “cloud based” subscription software packages out there. Even big software companies like Adobe are moving over to this kind of business model.

Then there are database sites. People pay you for access to your data. As long as it's current (and people can't find the information anyplace else) they'll have to keep coming back – especially if it's time-sensitive like market data.

We've all seen the ads for dating sites, hotel rating sites etc. These are types of membership site, too.

So when deciding on what type of membership site you want to start, don't limit yourself to just the “regular” type. The options really are limitless.

Warmly,

[Your Name]

PS. I go into much more detail in my membership site guide. Find out all about it here: [link to sales page].
